WalkieTalkie: Tune in. Hang out.
Walkie Talkie is the voice-based social app where people tune in to hang out. After quick growth, they needed a fresh brand to turn up the dial on what makes them special: authenticity, openness and a whole lot of spontaneity. Cutting through the noise of other social apps, we built a strategy inspired by the Third Space. A place where people come together to enjoy each other’s company, away from the pressures of home and work.
Inspired by Walkie Talkies, our visual identity pairs retro aesthetics with a few system updates, fit for Gen Z. This is exemplified by our bespoke LCD-inspired typeface. On an anonymous app, standing out can be hard. That’s why we evolved the brand mascot, Talkie, who can be personalized with different accessories. Our art direction centers in on users’ mouths, heroing their different personalities while maintaining anonymity. Underlying everything is our lighthearted tone of voice that sounds how ‘just chilling’ feels.
